Affectionately known to family and friends as "Bokey," Monty was born in Charlottesville, on May 23, 1947, the loving son of Mary Elizabeth (Armistead) Dixon Blankenship and Montague U. Dixon. He was also a devoted brother to Randall Armistead Blankenship.
An avid athlete in high school, Monty was a dedicated UVA sports fan. After a successful career as a small business owner, Monty enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and was known to help anyone in need. Monty was a lifelong supporter of veterans and spent much of his free time at VFW Post 1827.
Survivors include his children, Montague and his wife, Katherine Dixon, Michael Dixon, Mary Elizabeth (Dixon) Levy, Mark and his wife, Wendy Dixon, and Monica L. (Dixon) Huband and her husband, JT Huband. Monty was also a devoted grandfather to 14 grandchildren, Keller and Benjamin Dixon, Matthew and Elizabeth Dixon, Molly and Max Levy, Houston and Emily Dixon, Noah and Emma Hutchens, and Justin, Eli, Olivia, and Zachary Huband. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Karen Cash Blankenship; and two nieces, Kandy Blankenship Rothgeb and Kara Blankenship Floyd.
Monty was preceded in death by his devoted wife of thirty-five years, Barbara Herndon Dixon; and by his beloved brother, Randy Blankenship.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville. A celebration of Monty's life will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Monticello Memory Gardens.
