Dick Eilert Kleen, son of Eilert and Tena Kleen, was born June 29, 1862, at South Arler, East Friesland, Germany and was baptized in his infancy. At the age of 16 years, he was received into full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church by the rite of Confirmation.
He came to this country in the spring of 1883 and made his home with his uncle at Woodford, Ill. He came to Bruning about 57 years ago and on September 10, 1892 he entered into holy wedlock with Miss Katie Bowman of Bruning. The wedding took place in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Bruning. Their union was blessed with three children--two daughters and one son. One of the daughters, Tena, died about 35 years ago.
In late years, Mr. Kleen's health was not of the best, but he was always up and around up to the day of his death. It pleased God to call him hence rather unexpectedly on April 2nd, at the goodly age of 84 years, 9 months and 3 days.
He leaves his wife who shared with him the good and evil of this life for over 50 years; his son, Herman; his daughter, Marie Martin; three grandchildren of Bruning; three brothers and two sisters in Germany and a brother in Walnut, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church with interment in the Bruning Public Cemetery.
