Samuel Ashby

Samuel was born to Jane Gamble and William Ashby in South Croxton, England. He married Hannah Ward April 19, 1847 in Thumby, England. They had eight children.

Hannah and Samuel were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint and desired to emigrate to the United States. They had eight children and while their children were very young Samuel died. His death notice said he died in an infirmary of "erycepelas" actually erysipelas is a skin condition caused by strep bacteria, probably allowed to enter his system by a scratch or wound.

Samuel (Hannah's husband) was buried at Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester, 1 December 1861 aged 43 years.

THE SAMUEL ASHBY AND HANNAH WARD FAMILY
By Mrs. William H. Nielsen, July 30, 1953

Samuel Ashby and Hannah Ward Ashby lived at Leistershire, England and they were converts to the Latter-day Saints Church and desired to emigrate to the United States and join with the main body of Saints in Utah. When the children were very young, their father died. He was 43 years old and a farm labourer. His death certificate said he died in an infirmary of "erycepelas" actually erysipelas is a skin condition caused by strep bacteria, probably allowed to enter his system by a scratch or wound.

Note: I made an error in his history but have corrected it now. There was an article of a Samuel Ashby that died close to the time of this Samuel Ashby and for a while we thought it was him but then discovered it wasn't. Then I neglected to change this history.
