PIONEER UTAH BUSINESS MAN DIED AT S. L. HOME

John Latham Ashby, pioneer business man of Salt Lake and Ogden, died Tuesday, July 1, at the family residence, 1394 South Ninth East Street.

Mr. Ashby came to Utah in the eighties from Leicester, England. With an elder brother, Thomas, they commenced to manufacture custom made boots and shoes, being the pioneer manufacturtr of shoes in Ogden. For years the decedent had resided in Salt Lake City.

Surviving Mr. Ashby are his widow, Cora, a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Write, of Handon, Arizona, a son, Lawrence Ashby of Phoenix, Arizona and one grandchild.

DEATHS

ASHBY -- John Latham Ashby, 54 years of age, died suddenly last night at his home, South Ninth East Street, following a stroke of apoplexy. He was born in Leicester, England and came to Utah as a boy. With his brother he established the first large shoe factory in Ogden, but had made his home in Salt Lake for the past seventeen years.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cora Ashby, by a daughter, Mrs. Alfred White of Hayden, Arizona and a son, Lawrence Ashby of Phoenix, Arizona. The children will arrive in Salt Lake for the funeral services, details concerning which will be announced later.

ASHBY, JOHN LATHAM, 54, died Thuesday at his home, 1394 South Ninth East Street, following a stroke of apoplexy. He was born in England and came to Utah in his early youth. A widow and the following children survive: Mrs. Andrew White of Hayden, Arizona and Lawrence Ashby of Phoenix, Arizona.

John Latham Ashby, 63, died at 1:00 a.m. on July 1, 1934 at his residence, 1394 South 9th East in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Couty, Utah of paralysis.

He was born January 6, 1861 in Leicester, Lancashire, England to Samuel Ashby and Hannah Ward Ashby. He married Cora B. Myers on January 24, 1889 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah.

Interment was made in the Mount Olivet Cemetery on July 3, 1934. Evana & Early were the undertakers.
