Carroll Lee Rickman, 74, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 6, 2002, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Mr. Rickman was born in Transylvania County on January 4, 1928 and was the son of the late A.C. and Pearl Rickman. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, are a beloved twin brother, Dr. Harold Rickman and a sister, Edna Lyle. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and is loved and will be missed by each member of his family.

He spent most of his life in Asheville where he was employed and retired from Asheville Citizen-Times after 42 years. He also had a floor finishing business that he owned and managed for many years. He was a member of Asheville Wesleyan Church, the Men's Sunday School Class and a former Sunday School teacher for the Young Married Couples. He was also a member of the West Asheville Optimist Club and a member of VFW Post 891.

He was a past president and member of the West Asheville Youth Association and coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years. He was involved in the Erwin Youth League and was on their Board of Directors and was a member of the Western North Carolina Officials Association, umpiring high school and college baseball. Mr. Rickman played semi—pro baseball, softball, and was an avid golfer. He loved all sports and athletics.

Mr. Rickman was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was in the Naval Photographic Services and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1947.

Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
