She grew up in Parsons, attending St. Patrick's Catholic School, East Junior High and Parsons High School, graduating in 1933. She also attended Parsons Business College for two years before going to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She lived in Coffeyville, Edna, Chetopa and Humboldt before moving to Baldwin City in 1990.
She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Baldwin City. She also enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and was a sports fan.
