s/o Charles and Mary (Tortoriello) Zuzzio
He grew up in Belleville, N.J., where he was a high school athlete and in 1977 was inducted into the Belleville High School Hall of Fame. He graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., where he earned All-American status in football. He played professional football for the Detroit Lions as a guard and tackle. He served in the U.S. military during World War II and earned an American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
n 1947 he coached a Ban Johnson baseball team in Coffeyville to a national title before taking his first teaching and coaching job at Edna High School. In 1952 he moved to Chetopa High School to coach and teach and was also a pro scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1964-1966. He then coached and taught at Elk City before finishing out his 34-year career at Humboldt High School from 1966 to 1983.
Survived by two sons, two daughters, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
