Simeon Hood enlisted as a Landsman in Philadelphia on January 4th, 1864. During the war, he served on the USS Tacony and USS Princeton. After the war, Simeon was a charter member of Senator Charles Sumner Post No.4 Grand Army of the Republic, Department of Delaware in Wilmington.

During a parade last night, Simeon Hood, as well-known colored man who was in the procession, fell suddenly at Twelfth and Walnut Streets. When his companions picked him up he was dead. He had been stricken with heart disease. Hood was widely known and respected. He had a barber shop in the National Hall on Walnut Street for about twenty years, and was the first steward for the Monday club. He house was at No 712 Lombard St.
