Father of Heinrich Himmler. He worked as a private tutor at numerous high-ranking aristocratic houses, including an Excellency von Baeyer , a Baron von Bassus , Baron Lamezan in St. Petersburg and finally in 1890 as personal tutor to Prince Henry of Bavaria. He took over the upbringing and personal development of the prince until 1897, parallel to various temporary teaching positions at Munich high schools. In 1894 he was accepted as a high school assistant at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich and in 1897 he was appointed high school teacher. After his marriage to Anna Heyder, the couple moved to Hildegardstrasse in Munich. The second child, Heinrich, was sponsored by Himmler's former pupil, Prince Heinrich. The move to Liebigstrasse followed. In the summer of 1902, Gebhard took up a position at the Humanistic Gymnasium in Passau . In February 1903, his son Heinrich became seriously ill, after which Heinrich was sent to Wolfegg in the Allgäu together with his mother and brother to recover. Because of his son's health problems, which allegedly stemmed from the unfavorable climate of Passau, Himmler moved from Passau to the Ludwigsgymnasium in Munich in 1904 and moved into an apartment with the family at Munich's Amalienstraße 86. After enrolling his two children, who received excellent grades, on January 11, 1908, he took over the presidency of the Munich Gymnasium Teachers' Association. In the autumn of 1913 he became vice-principal at the humanistic high school in Landshut . As a result, the son Gebhard Ludwig lost contact with an important friend of the same age, Carl Oskar von Soden , a distant relative of the Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Freiherr Maximilian von Soden-Fraunhofen , and later a resistance fighter against National Socialism. After the outbreak of the First World War, the position of Vice-Principal occupied him completely. On June 1, 1919, Gebhard Himmler was appointed rector of the humanistic high school in Ingolstadt . From 1922 until his retirement in 1930 he was director of the Wittelsbacher Gymnasium in Munich.
