SS Standartenführer and older brother of Heinrich Himmler. He passed an officer training course in 1917 and was made Fahnenjunker of the 16th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, passed a machine gunner's course, and was deployed on the Western Front during the Battle of Château-Thierry. At the end of the war, he and his brother Heinrich joined the 21st Rifle Brigade (Schützenbrigade 21) of the paramilitary Black Reichswehr under Franz Ritter von Epp. In 1923 he joined the Bund Reichskriegsflagge under Ernst Rohm and took part in the Munich Putsch in November 1923. In 1933 he joined the Nazi Party (member no. 1,117,822) and the Verein für das Deutschtum im Ausland. In 1939 he was called up and assigned to the 19th Bavarian Infantry, deployed with his company to Czechoslovakia, and participated in the Invasion of Poland. On January 30, 1944, he became an SS-Standartenführer and on March 30, 1944, he was promoted to SS-Standartenführer der Reserve in the Waffen-SS and was employed as inspector of Waffen-SS schools. He was captured by the British army in 1946 and interned until 1948.
