Chester Ellis "Shorty" Myers of Gratis, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton. Born Aug. 21, 1915, in Springboro, Ohio, he was the only child of John and Leafy (Barnhart) Myers. He was a retired man of several occupations, including a bus driver for the City of Middletown, delivered fuel oil for Miller Oil and Eaton and drove for Meadow Gold Dairy. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Gratis and a member of Odd Fellows Lodge #147 in Gratis.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marie Remley Myers, in September 2000; two grandsons, Scotty Myers and Ricci Ellis Myers; and one great-grandson, Ray Evans Jr.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Ellis and Nokie (Gevedon) Myers, Dale and Diane Myers, all of Gratis Township, Eaton; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 6, at Gratis United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bryon Gevedon officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Odd Fellows Lodge #147 conducted memorial services during viewing on Friday evening, Aug. 5, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis.
