2 Feb 1918 Marie and Joseph Shoemaker were married in Washington DC by the Rev Paul Hickok. They were married for 64 years. Joseph and Marie had 3 children. Two daughters Ethel Phyliss and Virginia Marie who grew up to raise families of their own and a son Robert Joseph who was born on Christmas in 1923 and died the next day.
Marie was always busy making something for someone. She never watched TV with idle hands and would mend or crochet, embroider, hem-stitch pillowcases or cut out quilt blocks whenever she was sitting to watch a show. She was a wonderful cook. The kitchen was a wonderful place for a grandchild to be, helping to roll out homemade noodles, or pinching the dough together on her homemade raisin filled cookies, or helping to cut up candied fruit for her homemade mincemeat pies.
Marie was a member of St Paul's Methodist Church. She died 3 Jan 1982. Services were held at Koch Funeral Home in State College with the Rev Robert Vowler officiating. She is buried with her husband in the Shoemaker Mausoleum in Spring Creek Cemetery.
