Milton Leon Hopkins, 70, of Sunset, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, in Dallas.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Victory Baptist Church in Park Springs. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.
Milton was born Nov. 7, 1946, in Bowie to R.V. and Genell Hopkins. He graduated from Alvord High School in 1965. Milton went to work at Texas Instruments in Dallas for six months before returning to his family roots to begin farming.
He was a Montague county commissioner from 1983 to 1991. Despite that job, he continued farming until he retired at the age of 50. Milton married Carolyn Warren Aug. 30, 1994, in Las Vegas.
Even though polio took his ability to walk at a very early age, he never let it stop him. In fact, he was able to accomplish more than most healthy people do in a lifetime. He was fun- loving, quick-witted and loved his family deeply. Milton was knowledgeable about so much and those things that he didn't know, he learned about with the help of YouTube.
When he wasn't on Craiglist, YouTube or watching the Weather Channel, he enjoyed helping friends and family with anything they needed. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening and woodworking.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents. He's survived by his wife; sons Whitney Hopkins and wife, Carrie, of Arlington and Phillip Warren and wife, Stormy, of Bowie; daughters Ginger Dennie and husband, Christian, of Trophy Club and Stacey Johnson and husband, Cary, of Vashti; eight grandchildren; brothers Kenneth Hopkins and wife, Charlene, of Azle and Jimmy Hopkins and wife, Martha, of Sunset; and numerous nieces and nephews.
