Passing of an Old Citizen

The death of C. A. Aldrich which occured(sic) in this city last Saturday morning, December 17th, at 8:30 o'clock, witnesses the passing of one of the oldest and deservedly respected citizens of Sayre. He came to this city, from Arkansas, as manager of the Hooper lumber yard, one among the first established in the city. A few months later the yard passed into other hands and he moved to his claim eight miles northwest of town, where he resided until he made final proof. Then he returned to this city and conducted a rooming house and boot and shoe repair shop, until about one year ago when he moved to a farm near Prentiss, where he resided until a couple of months ago, returning to the city on account of failing health. Deceased was fifty eight years old and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodmen of America.

Funeral was held from the Christian church Sunday, December the 18th, under the auspices of the three orders. Elder A. J. Bradshaw, pastor of the church, delivered the funeral discourse. Interment was made in Doxey cemetery witnessed by a large concourse of friends of the family.

The Sayre Standard, Thursday, January 12, 1911 pg 6 col. 6

Wednesday, January 11, W. E. Simmonds, clerk of the local camp Modern Woodmen of America received from the head camp a check for $2,000 in full on policy carried by C. A. Aldrich, deceased, in favor of Mrs. Aldrich. Mr. Aldrich died December 17 and on the 24th Mr. Simmonds mailed proof of death to the head camp and eighteen days later a check covering full amount of policy awaited the disposition of the beneficiary. Pretty quick returns.
