Elizabeth Lewis, daughter of William Terrell Lewis, Senior and Sally M. Lewis, his wife; and wife of John Fielder was born in the year 1740 on July the 29th.

Elizabeth Fielder, wife of John Fielder, departed this life the 23rd of April 1818 being in his (sic) 78th year.

John Fielder departed this life on the 1st day of Dec. 1806 being in his 74th year of age.

-- This transcription of bible record entries was given to the Tennessee State Library by Olga Mayberry Worsham of Springfield, Tennessee, on February 6, 1941. Mrs. Worsham was the great-granddaughter of Betsy Fielder and David Cummins, and the bible was in her possession at that time.

John Fielder and his wife, Elizabeth Lewis (Benge), moved from North Carolina to Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, in 1793, according to the research of David McHughes and other descendants.

David wrote: "John Fielder was born in 1732, according to the family bible of his daughter Elizabeth. No mention is made as to the place of his birth. There are those who believe he was born in England, but nothing has ever been proven. It is also believed that he had another family prior to marrying Elizabeth. In his will, he names one Masy Morris as an inheritor and also calls her his daughter. We have no further mention of this part of his family. He and Elizabeth were probably married about 1769, based on the birth dates of their children. They were probably married in Virginia and moved later to Surry and Wilkes Counties of North Carolina before moving to Nashville in 1793."
