Ike Looney was born in either St. Clair County or Shelby County, Alabama. His Grandparents were Capt. John Looney and Rebecca (Turney) Looney who's historic old two story "fox trot" style log home is now a museum in St. Clair County, Ala. His Grandfather, Capt. John Looney, had served three times with General Andrew Jackson during the Creek Wars (War of 1812).

Ike appears with his parents and siblings in the 1860 census of Shelby County, Ala. Apparently the family stayed in Alabama throughout the Civil War as newspaper accounts say that they migrated to the Port Sullivan, Milam County, Texas area in 1868. Ike and his sibling suffered a great loss in 1870 when both of his parents died and were buried there at Port Sullivan.

Ike was primarily a Farmer in the Ben Arnold, TX area, but politics drew him in as a Democrat and he was elected and served two terms in the Texas House of Representatives during the 37th and 38th Legislature (1/11/1921 to 10/2/1923). Ike died during his second term. You may find where the Legislative Reference Library shows his middle initial to be "W", but my research on him shows that claim to be unsupported by any actual proof.

You will also find multiple newspaper references to Ike being referred to as "Colonel" or "Col" Ike Looney, but he being born in 1854 was too young to have served during the Civil War. He was only age 10 when the war ended. I have not found any proof of him having served any military service.
