Foster left Perquimans County, North Carolina to become one of the early pioneers in Elwood Township, Vermilion County, Illinois. He purchased 160 acres of Public Land on which an old log Friends Meeting House was built in 1843. He farmed his land and eventually moved on to Iowa.
