Smiley was a former employee of the Maley-Wertz Lumber Co.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Storms of Evansville, Mrs. Helen Garrett of Vincennes, and Mrs. Margaret Cox of Jenkintown, Pa.; a son, James A., of Evansville; a stepson, Kenneth Bridges of St. Philips; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Barth and Mrs. Dessie Crabtree, both of Evansville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday at the Meyer Funeral Home, where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. A. D. VanHoose officiating. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.
