Benjamin Mortimore Tharpe was the son of Thornton Tharpe and Louisa Curry Tharpe. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Mills Tharpe. (Elizabeth is buried in Ramey Cemetery, Front Royal, Virginia.)
