Mother of Five Dies in Motorcycle - Car Crash

The mother of five small children was fatally injured shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday when the motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with a car in the south part of Chickasha.

Mrs. Barbara "Bonnie" King 28, 414 Dakota Avenue, died of multiple head injuries less than an hour after the accident. She had been rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital by Chickasha Community Ambulance Service.

It was reported that Mrs. King was riding on the back of a motorcycle driven south on the west service road of U.S. 81 by Anthony Rowell, 21, Ninekah, when the vehicle slid into the right rear door of a 1969 sedan driven by Louis Burtschi, 113, Orchard Drive. It was reported Burtschi was driving north on the service road, and was attempting to turn left onto Highland Drive.

Neither occupant of the cycle was wearing safety equipment, according to a police report. Burtschi and Rowell were not injured according to the report.

Funeral services for Mrs. King, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Sevier Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Lacy, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating.

Mrs. King was born Dec. 20, 1940, in Chickasha and had resided here all of her life. She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1958.

She is survived by three sons, Jimmy, Jerry, and Jeff, and two daughters Brenda and Bedonna, all of the home; her mother, Mrs. Joy Brown of Chickasha; one brother, Earl Brown of Chickasha; one sister, Mrs. Betty McDaniel of Blythe, Calif.; and her grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Wilson of Velma.

Graveside rites will be conducted at 5 p.m. Friday in the Velma Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bonnie King were held at 2 p.m., Friday, in the chapel of the Sevier Funeral Home with Rev. Joe N. Lacy, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating.

Music was provided by Charles Roberts, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Frieda Young, organist.

Pallbearers were: J.C. Hunter, Kurley Hunter, Bob Darrington, Gaylon Spies, Jack Chaney, and Burt Dixon.

Graveside rites were held at 5 p.m. Friday in the Velma Cemetery.

Note: When Bonnie passed away the ground in Old Velma Cemetery where her parents owned a family plot was so muddy they could not dig a grave. A plot was bought in the New Velma Cemetery and she was buried there.
