Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Hall officiating, assisted by Joe Hailey. Burial will follow in the Silver Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Melissa Irene Story Beard was born February 2, 1923 in Dickson County, Tennessee to the late William Delbert and Mamie Lee Anderson Story. She grew up and attended schools in Cheatham County, Tennessee and married Ulys A. Beard on December 25, 1944 in Fairview, Tennessee. They moved to Coleman in August, 1967. She worked for Novice I.S.D., where she was a Teacher?s Aide, Cook and Bus Driver. She volunteered with the West Texas Rehabilitation Center and was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Ulys Beard of Coleman; five sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Teresa Beard of Clyde, Donald D. and Kim Beard of Clyde, Olan E. and Debbie Beard of Abilene, John W. and Myra Beard of Dickson, Tennessee, Bobby Lynn and Rhonda Beard of Clyde; four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley E. and Weldon Champion of Abilene, Gaile Ann and Bo Green of North Richland Hills, Janice M. and Harley Sadler of Ovalo, Annette and Randy Mabry of Sonora; one daughter-in-law, Judy Beard of Odessa; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer Story of Melborne, Florida, Neal and Ada Story of Melborne, Florida, Hardin and Juanita Story of Pegram, Tennessee; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Meadows of Hillsboro, Tennessee, Frank Greer of Pegram, Tennessee; 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, William (Bill) Beard; two sisters, Jean Meadows, Shirley Greer; three brothers, J.W. Story, Doyle Story and Gus Story.
