Mr. Eugene Newhall Vann, 85, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., passed away Feb. 13, 2008. He was born Dec. 8, 1922 in Roanoke, Ala., son of the late Clyde and Ruth Vann.
Gene was a veteran of World War II, serving in the First Division in the European Theater. He landed at Omaha Beach on D1 making his way across nothern France, Ardennes and Central Europe.
Gene was a member of Point Washington United Methodist Church and very active with The Friends of the Coastal Branch Library and Cultural Arts Association. Gene loved to read, travel and drink chocolate milkshakes and was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandpa.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rose Hilty and his brothers, Harold and David Vann, and his first wife, M. Elsanna (Zane) B. Vann.
Gene is survived by his wife, son, daughter, step-daughter and her husband, and step-son and his wife.
Gene is also survived by grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Point Washington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Meadows officiating
Burial will follow in the Point Washington Cemetery with military honors.
