Vernon was born on May 13, 1927 along with his twin brother, Virgil to Carl and Alba Simpson in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. Vernon moved to California in 1937 with his family. Vernon attended KCUHS and after graduation served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, during World War II, as a Core man. Vernon continued his education and held a BA in Psychology, an MA in Secondary Education and Supervision and a PhD in Psychology. Vernon also held a valid Lifetime California Teaching Credential. Vernon taught in both public and private sectors including colleges and universities. Vernon founded Montclair College Prep. School in 1956. An integral part of the educational process is development of those qualities which provide strength and direction to last a lifetime. Ninety-seven percent of the Montclair students were enrolled in a University or College before graduation. Vernon leaves a loving wife, Monteene; a stepdaughter; three stepsons; and grandchildren; a sister, Connie West; brothers, Ralph, Virgil, Bill and Bob; and a host of nieces and nephews. Vernon's faith in God was his anchor for life and he will best be remembered for bringing out the best in everyone he met. A memorial service to Celebrate his Life will be held Tuesday, February 19th, 11:00 a.m., at Canyon Hills Church, 7001 Auburn St. A reception will follow at Florence Gardens.
