Ethel M. Jacobitz of Bassett died on November 22, 1987, at the West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 22 days from pneumonia. She was born on November 29, 1897, at Mt. Clare, Nebraska, to Samuel and Katherine Zimmerman Carroll.

She attended the Mt. Clare grade school and after graduation from the 8th grade, she started working in the bank. She later worked her way through business college in Hastings and then attended nursing school in Omaha and graduated as a registered nurse and practiced her career as a private duty nurse through out different cities in the United States, which also fulfilled her desire to travel.

After practicing her career for 10 years, she married William F. Jacobitz on March 25, 1929, at Mt. Clare and they lived in that vicinity until 1934 when they moved to the Cushing, Ord, Chambers area and then in 1942 to the present home at Bassett.

To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Jacqueline) Smith and Mrs. William (Joyce) Walker of Camarillo, California, and a son Samuel of Bassett. Her survivors include her children; five grandchildren; brothers, Floyd Carroll of Davis, California, Earl Carroll of Santa Rosa, California, and Ward of Boston, Massachusetts; and sisters, Mary Koester of McMinnville, Oregon, Esther Oleson of Salem, Oregon, and Georgia Beadles of Los Angeles, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Katherine Carroll; brothers, Roy, Arthur and James Carroll; and sisters, Ada Stover and Mae Schlichtman.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 28, 1987, at 1:30 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church, with Pastor George Bingham officiating. Music was furnished by Marcia Painter and Kathy Bennett. Casketbearers were Dave Powell, Francis Kramer, Greg Smith, Ed DeVall, Loren Lund and Larry Mary. Interment was made in the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery at Bassett under the direction of the Hoch Funeral Home.
