Rev James A. Griffin Passed away at the Lakeside VA hospital in Chicago, IL on August 19, 1993. He was born on November 26, 1925 in Memphis TN to Rev Joseph L & Lucille Griffin. Rev Griffin was a member of Davis Memorial AME Church & Amvets Post # 6. A Tarrytown resident for 38 years. Formerly pastored in Laporte & Peru, IN and served as an Asst Pastor of First AME Church. Previously employed with Royal Bedding Co, Chgo, IL, Simmons Mattress Co, Munster IN. Business owner of Dyna Rest Supreme, Gary, IN. He also held a patent for "Disco Reversible Mattress. " Frequently heard on a local radio station as "In the Upper Room" in Gary , IN. Served in the US Army as PFC. Survivors:wife, Myrtle R. Griffin, daughters, Barbara Griffin of Memphis, Deborah Griffin, Deidre (Donald) Crudup of Gary, IN. Devoted grandchildren, Derek Griffin, Alan Campbell & Donyelle Crudup. 8 other grandchildren, Angela Wilhite, Farrah Griffin, Glenn Griffin, Terri & Sherri Griffin all of Memphis, TN. & 9 great grandchildren. God son, Oscar B. Lindsey Jr of CA; Sisters, Mary (Robert) Rushing of Detroit, MI, Naomi (Joe) Jones & Maude Hatcher of Memphis, TN, Ruth Griffin of Chicago, IL. Brother, Asbury Griffin of Illinois. Siblings, Joseph Jr, John, George, Laura, & Willa Mae preceded him in death along with his parents Rev Joseph L & Lucille Griffin. Visitation Wednesday, August 25, 1993 from 12 noon to 8 pm at Guy and Allen Funeral Home. Homegoing services Thursday, August 26, 1993 at 11am at Davis Memorial AME Church 4137 W. 21st AVE. (Tarrytown)Pastor Rudy Gearring officiating. The body will be taken to the Church Thursday morning to lie in state, no viewing after the eulogy.
