OBITUARY. - Mr. John Beattie, aged 85 years, died on Thursday, Dec. 15th, at his home near Cambria [ an area of Whiteford now ], leaving three daughters, Mrs. Agnes Martin of New Jersey; and Mrs. Jane Atkins and Miss Annie Beattie of Harford County, and two sons, Mr. John S. Beattie, of Harford County, Md. and William Beattie Lancaster Co., Pa.,
Mr. Beattie was a native of Scotland and came to this country about 58 years ago. he was an industrious, hard working man and was greatly respected. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. The funeral took place on Saturday from his late residence to Slate Ridge Church, where the services and interment took place. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. D. Smith, the pall bearers being David Harry, Hugh Bay, John O Stearns, Humphrey Lloyd, Robert Parke and James H. Day.

Enlisted in U.S. Union Army, 13 March 1865 and discharged out 29 June 1865.
Rank was Corporal, Co. H. 87th Regt. P.V.

William Alexander Beattie: b. 14 Feb. 1852 and died 12 April 1929 in E. Nottingham, Chester Co., Pa. Burial in Oxford Cemetery. Penn Death Certificate lists father as John Beattie, Mother: Agnes SWAN.

John Sappington Beattie: Born abt. 2 June 1844 and died 6 February 1929 in Whiteford. Age 84 yrs. 8 mo, 4 days. Married to Mary Norris. Both are supposed to be buried here in Slate Ridge according to their obituaries and funeral notices but I can not find them listed in the 1970 survey of the cemetery.

Jane Beattie Atkin, Born: 27 Feb. 1839 ?. [Maryland Death Certificate has 1826] Died: 15 May 1914 in Cambria - the old name for an area in Whiteford, Harford Co., Maryland. Widowed, and died of Heart failure. Father: John Beattie, born in Scotland, Mother: Agnes nee' Swan, born in Scotland. Janes' son Robert Atkin signed for the information

Annie P. Beattie: born 1848 in Whiteford, Harford Co., Md. and died 26 October 1939 in Cardiff, Harford Co., Md. Annie P. did not marry, but she had a son, Frank Leslie Beattie: 1875-1934. At times she is found in the newspaper social as, "Miss Annie P Beattie", then later in census as, "Mrs Annie P Beattie" widow and in son Frank's 1934 obituary. She handled the estate and administration of her father, John Beattie's estate after he died, then sold the family home-farm.
