Edna Sherwood Hewlett 1914 ~ 2008

Edna Sherwood Hewlett passed away nobly, greeting and rejoicing with her family on the other side, on January 15, 2008. Mom was born on March 3, 1914, in Salt Lake City, to Alice Theresa Schoenfeld and Robert Sherwood. She married Elwynn S. Hewlett on December 9th, 1929, and they later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad passed away in November of 1997. Mom and Dad were the parents of six children: Joan L. Cramer (Harold); Karen G. Woodman (Charles); Elwynn S. Jr. (Mona); Kathryn A. Thompson (Fred); Robert S. and James A. (Linda). Joan and Wynn passed away September 2006 and December 1997, respectively. Mom's posterity includes numerous grand and great grandchildren. Service to her family, the Lord and especially elderly widows was the reason for Mom's existence. She accepted many callings in the LDS Church and served as Relief Society President in the Fourth Ward and the Temple View Stake for nearly 20 years. For 30 years, she cared for elderly widows from the Pioneer and Temple View stakes in her "Sherwood Home" nursing home on West Temple Street, personally attending to them upstairs and down, day and night. Edna was strengthened by many visits from apostles and prophets who stopped in to leave blessings and express their love for her and those in her care. Mom was very proud of her German and English ancestry, talking often of her dear parents, recalling marvelous testimony-strengthening moments and experiences. She lived her testimony throughout her life. We know that the Lord was pleased of her tireless devotion to His work and looked after her. We were blessed by her testimony, her gentle touch and courageous heart. Our family joins with Mom in expressing heartfelt appreciation to Hearts for Hospice for their devotion to Mom and to the staff of Greenwood Manor, Lehi, for their tender care. Funeral services will be held at the Mount Mahogany 5th Ward 1541 N. 1300 W. Pleasant Grove, UT, on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11a.m. A viewing will be held one hour prior to her service. Burial will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
