Daughter of William Henry Hooper and Mary Ann Knowlton

Married Willard Young, 1 Aug 1882, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah

Children - Mary Young, Harriet Young, Anna Young, Claire Young, Alice Young, Sidney Hooper Young

History - Harriet Hooper was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Mary Ann Knowlton and William Henry Hooper, 3 May 1861. Her birth occurred while her parents were on their way to Washington, D.C. where her father served as a delegate to Congress from the Territory of Utah. As a member of the prominent Hooper family, her early life was spent in the palatial home on First West in Salt Lake City. Harriet was described as "really beautiful, graceful and cultured, as measured by the highest standards of New England Social '400'."

August 1, 1882, at the age of twenty-one, she was married to Willard Young, son of President Brigham Young and Clarissa Ross. His mother died when he was six years old and him and his three sisters were placed in the home of Zina D. H. Young, "who proved a real mother to them." Willard was destined to become one of the most prominent civil and military engineers in Utah history, as well as a distinguished faithful member of the church.

Harriet, who had borne most of her children while maintaining their home near the location of her husband's varied activities, passed away of a heart ailment November 30, 1939. It was said of her that she "has been a prominent figure in church and civic affairs. . . She was known for her hospitality and dignity, for the consecration of her life to her family and for her unostentatious acts of charity."
