Simeon enlisted in as a Private in Company C (later became Company K) of the 64th Regiment, Georgia Infantry under Captain CS Jenkins' Company, Evans' Regiment, on February 26, 1863 and served until the surrender at Appomattox on April 9, 1865 (he was a POW at the time of surrender).
