She received a rich faith heritage from her family. Marty had 49 nieces and nephews who were directly related to her, and an additional 28 from her husband's side of the family. She cared about every one of them. Marty's surviving sisters are Sylvia Dykstra and Cornelia Arens.
She graduated from Holland Christian High School and attended Blodgett school of nursing. She didn't complete her nursing degree but always retained nursing in her heart. She worked as a unit secretary in hospitals for fifteen years in both Lansing, Michigan and Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Mary married Jake Terpstra on December 12, 1952 and they just celebrated their 67-year anniversary. She is survived by her three children: Mark Terpstra, Jack and Anita Terpstra, and Jeanne and Bob Katerberg; ten grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Marty was quiet and reserved. She had a servant's heart and was quick to pitch in to help when there was a need. She volunteered for two services that provided food for those in need. Martha loved her family deeply and loyally.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 12 PM, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) with visitation from 11:30 am to 12 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Prison Ministry or to Humanity for Prisoners.
