Raymond Frailey, age 67, of 2413 Colfax St., Black Oak, passed away Tuesday, June 9, at St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Gary.
Survivors: wife Callie; 1 daughter, Mrs. Ruth Tucker of Calumet City, Ill; 3 sons, Lindel and James both of Portage, and John of Griffith; 2 sisters Mrs. Luttie Dooley of Tucson Ariz., Mrs. Mary Black of Harrisburg, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Friday, June 12 at 1 p.m. from the Virgil Huber Funeral Home, 7051 Kennedy Ave., Hessville, with the Rev John Neese of the Griffith Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-10 p.m. and Thursday 2-5 and 7-10 p.m.
Mr. Frailey had been a resident of Black Oak for the past 45 years. He retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. in 1966 after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Youngstown Old Timers Club and a member of Local No. 1011, United Steel Workers of America.

In the spring of 1925 Raymond left Harrisburg, Illinois on a freight train heading for Whiting, Indiana. He found employment at the Standard Oil Refinery. He said the coal mines in southern Illinois was not for him. After a few months he sent for Callie Hooten and they were married at Crown Point, Indiana on August 13th 1925 by the Justice Of The Peace. In 1926 he went to work at The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. (A steel mill ). He retired from there in 1967. From Whiting he moved to East Chicago, then to Hammond and back to East Chicago. In 1937 he built a house in Black Oak a section between Hammond and Gary. He moved his house to another section of Black Oak in 1947. He was living there when he died of leukemia.
Raymond had no formal training as a tradesman, but he was a barber, cabinetmaker and upholsterer. He only finished the fourth grade in school. Mainly because his father was shot and killed when he was 9 years old. However one of his main hobbies was reading.
