Jim joined the United States Air Force in August 1948. He attended the Weather observer school at Chanute Air Force Base at Rantoul, Illinois. He spent most of his time in service at Washington D. C.. His 3 years enlistment was extended to 4 years on account of the Korean Conflict.
Jim attended Horace Mann High School in Gary, Indiana and Hammond Tech in Hammond, Indiana. He started working at Younstown Sheet and Tube Co ., [May 1945 soon after his 16th birthday] retiring in 1985 and moving from Portage, Indiana to Crossville, Tennessee, where he died of cancer. His career at Youngtown Sheet and Tube included a Boilermaker Apprenticeship, Maintenace Planning Engineer and Maintenance Foreman.

James R. "Jim" Frailey, 65, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, October 6, 1994.
He was a resident of Crossville since 1986, formerly a 22 year Portage resident.
He was born May 15, 1929 in Whiting, Indiana the son of Ray Frailey and Callie Hooten. He was married to Bonnie J. Leonard on January 24, 1953 in Gary.
He worked as a boilermaker on the steel side for L.T.V. Steel before becoming maintenance supervisor in the #2 tin mill.
He retired in 1985 with 40 years of service, was a Korean Conflict Air Force veteran, a member of the Portage Lions Club, a former member of the Chesterton Moose and attended the Tansi Community Church of Crossville.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bonnie J. Leonard Frailey of Crossville, Tennessee; one son, David of Crossville, TN.; one daughter, Deborah "Bob" Ogden of Valparaiso; three grandchildren, Kim and Kayce Ogden, Jessy Frailey; two brothers, Lindel (Millie) Frailey of Valparaiso, John "Jack" (Loretta) Frailey of Monticello, IN.; brother-in-law, Ed Tucker of Calumet City, Illinois; 25 nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Christopher Ogden and sister, Ruth Tucker.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 10, 1994, 11 a.m. at The Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN., with Rev. Jerry P. Martin officiating.
Burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.
Visitation Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. at the Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
