According to the Civil War draft registrations records: his full name was John Henry Culler, his residence was Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland, he list as class 1, Congressional District 4, his age at that time July 1, 1863 was 25, he was a white male, unmarried, birth place, Maryland.

In the 1870 census, John and his family were living in Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, John H. Culler, a farmer, age 32 born in Maryland, and his wife, Amanda A. Culler, age 30 born in Maryland, their children listed at that time were; Oscar D. Culler age 2, and Lula E. Culler age 5 months, both listed born in Maryland.

In the 1880 census, John and his family were still living in Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, John Culler, a farmer, age 42 born in Maryland, his wife, Amanda Culler, age 41 born in Maryland, and their children listed were; Oscar Culler, age 11 and Harlan Culler age 7, both born in Maryland.

In the 1900 census, John and his wife were still living in Jefferson, Frederick County, Maryland. He was listed as, John H. Culler, a farm laborer, age 62, born January 1838 in Maryland, and his wife, Amanda L. Culler, age 61, born April 1839 in Maryland. It also stated that they have been married 34 years, and that she was the mother of 2 children, and that only one was still living. (NOTE--it should read 3 children, Oscar, Lula, & Harlan)

His obituary in the Evening Post, Frederick, Maryland, Wednesday, September 27, 1911.

John Henry Culler died at his home in Jefferson yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock of chronic interstitial nephritis. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Amanda L. Culler, and one son, Oscar D. Culler. Mr. Culler was aged 73 years, 7 months and 20 days. He was one of Jefferson's most prominent and highly respected citizens. The funeral will take place from his late residence tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. M. R. Etchison has the funeral in charge.
