Roy D. Butts, 84, of Logansport, IN, passed away peacefully at 8:00 AM on Monday, November 14, 2022 at home.

Born on May 5, 1938 in Greencastle, IN, he was the son of the late A. W. and Mildred Butts. Roy has three younger siblings.

Roy was a 1956 graduate of Reelsville High School and a 1960 graduate of Indiana State University.

On June 17, 1967, he married Barbara Brubaker.

Roy began his teaching career as a fifth grade teacher at Royal Center in 1960-1963. After receiving his principal's license, he was offered grade 6 and the principal's position at Lake Cicott from 1963-1966. He became elementary principal in the following schools through the years: Tefft, Remington, Gilboa and Rockville. In 1993, Roy took early retirement from education.

Roy had been engaged in farming since 1965. In 1994, he and Barbara sold their Parke County farms and moved to Cass County where they became full-time farmers.

Roy loved being outdoors. Besides farming, he raised chickens, peacocks, guineas, quail, goats, cattle and pigs. He loved to garden and to cut wood. Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing and was very knowledgeable about nature and could expound on almost any topic. His friends fondly referred to him as "Mr. Encyclopedia".

Roy also enjoyed traveling and some of he and Barb's highlights were seeing Niagara Falls on their honeymoon, Toronto, Montreal and the 1967 World Exposition, Quebec, and Prince Edward Island. Roy and his brother Richard spent a month traveling in Alaska and going as far as the Arctic Circle. He and Barb traveled through much of the United States and took cruises to Mexico, the Caribbean Islands and the Inside Passage in Alaska. They also spent a month touring Australia and New Zealand.

Roy is survived by his wife; one brother; two sisters; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and fathe-in-law, Howard and Donna Brubaker; and many aunts and uncles.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 2181 Cemetery Road, Greencastle, IN 46135.
