Son to Pedro Almenares and María Susana Libertad (bap. Dec. 17, 1845 [LA Baptism 01538]) , they married in Los Angeles on 25 September 1858

A party of field hands engaged at work on the other side of the Santa Clara river, near the Dominguez ranch, were hauling in their last load for the day to the house of a man named Valdez on arriving at the house commenced unloading. They were engaged in hauling beans. In the wagon was a loaded shotgun, carried for the purpose of shooting ducks and geese, which about in that area. All the beans had been unloaded excepting one sack, lying in the wagon, beside which was the shotgun.
One of the party a young man 19 years of age named Guillermo Almenares picked up the gun to remove the sack, when the hammer was caught and the gun discharged, the load entering his left side with the 5th and 6th ribs making a frightful wound. Dr. Hill was called, and di all in his power for the boy who lingered until the next morning when he died.
