Michael J. Karau, age 68, of Tomah and formerly of Merrill, WI, passed away October, 20, 2019. Michael John was born October 8, 1951 in Merrill, Wisconsin, the son of Erava Sr. and Ruth (Martell) Karau. He was the youngest of six siblings. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1969. In his younger years, he enjoyed deer hunting in Wisconsin. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1980.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Charles (Barbara) Johnston, James K. Johnston, Erava (Gretel) Karau, and Barry (Susie) Karau; and his sister, Sandra Kozelka.

A private family military rites service will be held this summer in the Merrill Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Michael's memory to the Tomah VA Medical Center. The Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
