Born Jan. 14, 1942, in Chicago to John Kelly and Lillian Anastasia Kalafut, she married Melvin Lee Hyde Sr. on March 15, 1958, in Chicago. He survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Deborah Hyde, Realene (Robert C.) Lowande, Betty J. Edwards and Janelle Poole, all of Creve Coeur and Joanne Hyde of Bay View Gardens; one son, Melvin Lee Jr. (Chris) Hyde of East Peoria; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond Kalafut of Peoria and Patrick Kalafut of Creve Coeur.
Her parents; one son, Robert Lee Hyde; one granddaughter, Crystal Gale Holmes; and one brother, Richard Kalafut, preceded her in death.
Joan was a certified nurse's assistant and worked at Minnie's Kitchen as a dishwasher.
She enjoyed spending time with her family. She also liked making crafts, camping and fishing.
