Cunningham Clipper, May 14, 1926: Death once more has entered our little city and claimed for its victim, another one of our pioneer citizens. Mrs. George Simonson passed away last Thursday afternoon, May 6, at 2:30 o'clock, following a stroke of apoplexy. Altho' Mrs. Simonson has been in ill health for some time, yet her death came suddenly to all. She suffered the fatal stroke in the early morning of May 6, and was unconscious until her death came.
Jennie Matilda Elder-Simonson, daughter of Thomas and Matilda Elder, was born near Lansing, Mich, August 9, 1860, and passed away at her home at Cunningham, Kansas, May 6, 1926, aged 65 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
Her father died when she was six years of age. In 1870, she came with her mother and family to Kansas and settled on a homestead in Repulic County.
She was married to George G. Simonson on May 3, 1878 at Prairie Grove, Republic County, Kansas. To this union seven children were born; Dora May Sprague, Kansas City, Kansas; Charley Jason Simonson, Kismet, Kansas; Sarah Jane Maxedon, who died in 1909; Mary Bell Franks, Cunningham, Kansas; Juliette Donnell, Amarillo, Texas; George McKinley Simonson, died in 1900; Thelma Ruth Baker, Eldorado, Kansas; Everette Hauser, an orphan, whom she raised from an infant, lives in Cunningham.
She is survived by her husband George G. Simonson, also four sisters who live in Michigan; three brothers, one living in Nebraska and two in Oklahoma. Her twin brother, Jason T. Elder, of Pond Creek, Oklahoma and Andrew J. Elder of Hubbel, Nebraska, were present at the funeral. There are 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grand children living.
