Bernardina was born at an unspecified Salinan rancheria in what is now Monterey County, California, about 1777. She was the daughter of Coypá. She assumed her Christian name upon her baptism at Mission San Antonio de Padua May 20, 1797 (SAP Baptism 02222) and then married Salinan neophyte widower Diego Bravo the following day (SAP Marriage 00471). She and her husband then relocated to Mission San Miguel Arcángel, where she died and was buried in the mission cemetery January 21, 1804 (SMA Death 00234).
