Youngs Celebrate
50th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Young

Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Young of Sayre celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon with open house for their friends and relatives.

Mr. Young, a native of Cannon county, Nashville, Tenn., is the son of W. A. Young and Martha Jane Burkett, moving to Texas with his parents in 1875 and in 1900 settled near Hollis, Oklahoma, Greer county. Mrs. Young, formerly Hattie Phylena Rippetoe and a native of Montague county, Texas, is the daughter of W. N. Rippetoe and Margaret Ann Linny. She moved to Greer county with her parents in 1892.

Mr. and Mrs. Young were married at Hollis, Oklahoma April 7, 1902(sic) and they reared nine children. They include James Floyd Young of the home address, Una Vida Jackson, Texola, Manuel A. Young, Oklahoma City, Captolia Miller, Sayre, Iva Swaner, Sayre, W. T. Young, Oklahoma City, Ida Mize, Sayre, Dessie Harrison, Texola. Robert Lee Young was killed in Germany during World War II. There are twenty-one grandchildren. All eight children and twenty grandchildren attended the celebration.

Among those present was D.T. Johnston, Hollis, a witness at the wedding ceremony in 1901.

The honorees(sic) received many gifts including a bride and groom ring set from the children and grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Hattie P. Young who died Monday in an Elk City hospital, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Sayre Church of Christ with J. F. Dogged, minister officiating.

Born February 17, 1883 in Montague county, Texas, she moved to western Oklahoma in 1892 and settled near Hollis where she lived until 1929 when she moved to Sayre. She was married on April 7, 1901 to James R. Young at Hollis.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Vida Swagerty of Lela, Tex., Mrs. Captolia Miller and Mrs. Iva Swaner of Sayre. Mrs. Ida Mize of Elk City. Mrs. Dessie Harrison of Texola, two sons, Mansel Young and W. T. Young, both of Oklahoma City.

Others are 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lela Little of Quanah, Tex., one brother, W. G. Rippetoe of Clarendon, Tex.

Her husband and two sons preceded her in death.

Casket bearers will be Lewis Lawrence. Raymond Green, Harry Bo___, J. G. Weaver and Paul Watson.

Internment will be in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery with the Moore Funeral Home in charge.
