Because David was not a member, Margaret was disowned by Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting (Hanover County, VA) on May 9, 1789 for marrying "out of unity." She was reinstated in 1802. It is unclear when David joined, but he was a member in good standing by 1810.
The family first requested a certificate to Salem Monthly Meeting in Columbiana County, Ohio, in 1811 after David's cart and a quilt belonging to the family were seized under Virginia's "militia law." They completed the move in 1812.
