Herbert D. Swanson, 84 of rural Akron died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1994, at Prairie Estates Nursing Home in Elk Point, SD.

Mr. Swanson was born April 18, 1910, in Union County, SD the son of Alfred and Amanda (Sand) Swanson. He grew up in rural Akron and attended Garland School. He was a lifelong Akron area farmer. He married Mildred Heasley Aug. 5, 1936 in the U.B. Chapel, rural Akron. She died Nov. 29, 1993.

Mr. Swanson was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church and a life member of the Farmers Union.

Survivors include a son, David Swanson and his wife, Mary of Elk Point; four grandchildren, and three brothers, Stanley of Alcester, SD, Arthur of Sioux City, and Leonard of Akron.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie and Antionetta, and a brother, Walter.
