Cathy Ann Balderrama, 75, our beloved Mother, Wife, Grandma and Sister died on Friday, October 14, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing will leave a huge hole in our lives forever.
Cathy was born on March 1, 1947, in Hollywood, California, the oldest of three children born to Robert and Joy (Dierking) Cadwallader. She loved being the older sister to Sherry and Dave. The three of them remained extremely close all through their lives. As a child, she lived in numerous places including Southern California, Ellensburg, Washington, Boise, Idaho and Ketchikan, Alaska. They settled back in Boise permanently when she was a sophomore in high school. She graduated from Borah High School in 1965.
Cathy met her husband Ronald Balderrama at Wyckoff trucking in 1965. Cathy worked as a secretary and Ron was a truck driver. It was an instant connection and they quickly fell in love. In 1967, just after Cathy turned 19, they eloped to Reno, Nevada. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in April of this year. She and Ron moved to Milpitas, California shortly after they were married, bought their first home and Cathy got a job working at IBM. While living in California they welcomed two daughters, Debbie in 1969 followed by Diane in 1971. They moved back to Boise in 1977 and remained here until her passing.
Cathy worked for IBM for 27 years both in California and Idaho. At age 47, she embarked on her most loved job- being a fulltime grandma. She excelled at this job like no other. She adored her grandchildren, and we are so grateful that she loved and cared for all of them from the time they were a few months old until they were independent and driving themselves around. She happily changed diapers, cooked thousand of lunches, chauffeured them to and from school, practices and anywhere else they asked of her. By the time her youngest grandchild was born she had five grandkids ranging from 3 months to 7 years old in her care. Nathan, Matthew, Alyssa, Hailey and Sophia. She loved every minute of her time with them, and she never missed an opportunity to spoil her grandchildren, even to this day. She was proud of them all and was their biggest cheerleader.
Cathy was a huge Disney fan. She was at Disneyland shortly after its grand opening and even got to meet Walt Disney himself. She spent a lot of time there as a youth and revisited the park many times with her own kids, instilling the same love of Disney in all of us. She had a lifelong love for movies, the scarier the better. She was a fabulous cook and loved having large gatherings at her house, especially for the holidays and birthdays. Her tacos are a family favorite. She had a green thumb, both with inside plants and flowers that adorned her back patio and yard. She hated flying, but LOVED road trips, where she preferred to be the driver. The latest road trip was down the Oregon Coast on through the Redwoods in Northern California with Ron and Sherry. Other family favorites were vacations in McCall, Canada, Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe, and Northern Idaho to go boating with Dave as well as many trips to see family in Southern California. She loved playing Gin Rummy, Uno and Mexican Train with her family. Every day she played Words with Friends, Trivia Crack, worked her crossword puzzles and made her trip to Dutch Bros where the staff knew her order by heart. She had an infectious laugh that we will all miss terribly.
Cathy was generous, dependable, loving and funny. She put up a heroic fight to stay here with us, but we are confident that she is at peace and knows how much we all love her. She will always be with us in our hearts.
Cathy is survived by her husband Ron Balderrama, daughters Debbie (Scott) Vermeer and Diane (Denny) Bramble, grandchildren Nathan, Matthew and Alyssa Vermeer and Hailey and Sophia Bramble, sister Sherry Brant, brother Dave Cadwallader, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Joy Cadwallader.
