Carl J. Schroeder, 71, Greensburg, died Saturday, June 26, 1999 at his home.

Born Feb. 26, 1928, he was the son of Gregory and Charlotta (Stier) Schroeder. He married Caroline A. Barrett April 11, 1953 in Greensburg, and she survives.

He retired as manager of Farm Bureau Co-Op after 22 years. He also farmed.

He was a member of Knights of St. John Uniform Rank, Knights of Columbus, where he served as past Grand Knight and as a Columbian Board Member. He was a member of American Legion Post 129. He served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a former Parish Council member of St. Mary's Church and served as a Eucharist Minister. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1946, attended Purdue University, and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Christopher J. Schroeder and Ted Schroeder, both of Greensburg; one daughter, Mrs. Carla (Jeff) Strong of Michigantown; three brothers, Louis Schroeder of Indianapolis, David Schroeder of Indianapolis, and Justin Schroeder of Rushville; five sisters, Sister Rose Mary Schroeder OSF and Sister Cecilia Schroeder, OSF, both of Oldenburg, Mrs. Margaret (Leonard) Mauer, Mrs. Catherine (Louis) Mauer and Teresa Horan, all of Greensburg; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Schroeder.

The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg, the Rev. Steve Schaftlein officiating.

Burial is at St. Mary's Cemetery, with full graveside rites provided by American Legion Post 129. Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, with Rosary service at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Decatur County Hospice or American Cancer Society.
