Justin R. Schroeder 81, of Rushville, passed away Mar. 16, 2017 at Rush Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, Mar. 20, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rushville with Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating. Burial will follow at Rushville’s Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-6 PM Sunday Mar. 19th with the rosary recited at 2PM at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory.

He was born Mar. 3, 1936 in Decatur County a son of the late Gregory and Charlotta (Stier) Schroeder. Justin attended Adams grade school, and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1954 and enjoyed playing basketball for St. Paul Blasters.

Justin was a proud Army veteran and had basic and advanced training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. from July 11, 1956 to Dec. 1, 1956. He was a battalion supply clerk, served near Inchon, Korea for a year, and then he was transferred north of Seoul, near the DMZ for the last 3 months of his service career, being released in 1958.

Justin married Marilyn Ricke on October 21, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg. Justin farmed in Decatur County, then Justin and his family moved to northern Rush County in 1968 where they farmed until 2005. He also worked for Rush County Schools as a custodian several years. Justin enjoyed being with his family and was delighted to attend the Cincinnati Reds Baseball and Purdue “boilermakers” basketball games. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he had served on the parish council, Rush County REMC, past board member, Rush County 4H leader and Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his loving children, Ken (Nancy) Schroeder of Rushville, Andrew (Trista) Schroeder of Evanston, IN, Greg (Tina) Schroeder Neenah, WI and Sally (Jerry) Adams of Thomson, GA; Grandchildren, Melinda (Nate) Hedrick, Justin, Katherine, Jonah, Bradley, Grayson and Ella Schroeder; Great grandchildren, Liam and Alex Hedrick also survive.

Also surviving is his sister, Catherine (Louie) Mauer and Teresa Horan, all of Greensburg; sister in law’s Rosemary Schroeder of Greensburg, Chris Schroeder of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his sibilings, Margaret Mauer, Sister Rosemary Schroeder OSF, Louie Schroeder, Carl Schroeder, David Schroeder, Paul Schroeder, Sister Cecelia Schroeder OSF.
