From Schaetter Funeral Home:

Stanley Sauer was born on February 27, 1937, in Fredericksburg, TX to Paul and Alice Sauer. He died peacefully on October 11, 2022.

Stanley was baptized on April 25, 1937, and confirmed on July 29, 1951, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Doss, TX. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Doss Troop 132. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1955 and then served two years in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea as a Specialist 3rd Class. After returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Koennecke on Sept. 7, 1957. They celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2018.

Stanley received his Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He had a long and distinguished career in water resources program management for the U.S. Geological Survey and was granted the highest honor of the Department of the Interior, the Distinguished Service Award. Although his career took him to Colorado, Virginia, Louisiana, and Tennessee, he was always happiest back home on his beloved "Double S" Ranch in Doss, where he spent much time in his retirement.

Over the years, Stanley served faithfully in many capacities at Zion Lutheran Church, everything from Council President to driving seniors to church on Sunday mornings. He built lifelong friendships and was a respected leader in every phase of his life.

Stanley leaves a legacy of steadfast dedication and love for his family. Grieving his passing are his three daughters and their husbands, Stephanie and Sheldon Searle, Lori and Doug Burns, and Sharon and Ted Bartley, twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two dear sisters, Marjorie Garretson and Eileen and Gary Brodbeck, along with many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
