Bernardo Timoteo Chavez, 88, was born in Cienega, New Mexico, to his young mother,
Julianita "Julia" Chavez, and was helped to be raised by his grandparents, Carolina (Barela) and Eduardo Timoteo Chavez, in Mountainair, New Mexico.

He was married to his beautiful wife, Margaret, on November 16, 1953. He was a loving and devoted husband; and they shared many cherished memories over their nearly 69 years of marriage.

He worked at Armstrong Farms in Moriarty, as well as for Valley Gold Farms, in Albuquerque, before he began his work for The New Mexico State Highway Department in Moriarty. He later retired as a Supervisor on December 31, 1996.

Bernardo enjoyed spending much of his days outdoors, working in his shops and especially taking great pride on his planting and gardening.

Bernardo was especially proud of his family. He loved having his family over for visits and for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and the births of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a hard worker in all that he did. He was a positive role-model and special mentor to his family and friends. He loved to tell stories of his childhood, his work history and just what he did that day. He was strong in his Catholic faith and he spent time praying daily. He always told his family that his birthday was on Thanksgiving Day, so as special as he was, we always honored and celebrated him on Thanksgiving, every year.

He was preceded in death by his children, Bernardo, Jr., Abel, and Ernest

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children: Albert Chavez and his wife Debbie; Doris Chavez and her husband Hugo J.; April Chavez and her husband Adrian; and Robert Chavez and his wife Eve; grandchildren: Jesse Chavez and his wife Laurie, Martin Chavez and his wife Alicia, Daniel Jaramillo and his wife Avelin, David Jaramillo, Victoria Schwerdel and her husband Alex, Adrian Jr. Chavez and his wife, Brittany, Adriana Doyle and her husband Kevin, Alyssa Gifford and her husband Thomas, Valerie Torres, Anthony Chavez & Addison Chavez; and great-grandchildren: Olivia Chavez, Alexis Chavez, Ezekial Chavez, Amelia Chavez, Vanessa Chavez, Nolan Schwerdel, Julia Schwerdel, Liam Jaramillo, Mathew Jaramillo, Callie Jaramillo, Elijah Jaramillo, Jack Chavez, Mackenzie Chavez, Everlyn Doyle, Eliana Doyle, Liam Gifford.
