Actor. He was best known to film viewers for his role as the heroic cop, Lt. Ethan Bishop, in the John Carpenter thriller "Assault on Precinct 13" in 1976. In the early 1950s, he, along with fellow countryman Geoffrey Holder, came to New York City to pursue a career in show business. He went on to perform on both the Broadway theatrical stage and in nightclubs. Later, he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. After his army stint, he studied acting at HB Studio in New York and later moved to Los Angeles. In 1969, he made his acting debut on the television series "The Mod Squad." He later appeared in such television series as "Love, American Style," "Kojak," "Police Story," "Return to the Planet of the Apes," "The Six Million Dollar Man," "Lou Grant," "Trapper John, M.D.," "The Bold and the Beautiful," and "The District." He also appeared in various television miniseries such as the 1977 epic classic "Roots." In 1973, he made his film debut in "Battle for the Planet of the Apes." Besides "Assault on Precinct 13," his later films credits would include such titles as "Airport 1975," (1975) "'Sheba, Baby'" (1975) and ""Time Walker." (1982) He passed away of renal failure.
