530 Lance Sergeant D Reid, 2nd Battalion the Scots Guards. The Battalion deployed to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing on the Britannic on 15 Mar 1900, and arrived at the Cape on 5 Apr 1900. Along with the 2nd Grenadiers, 2nd East Yorkshire, and 1st Leinster Regiment, they formed the 16th Brigade under Major General Barrington Campbell. They joined the main Army advance to Bloemfontein and Pretoria. Lance Sergeant Reid died of disease at Bloemfontein on 13 Jun 1900. He is also commemorated on a Scots Guards Boer War memorial board in Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Place, Windsor, Berkshire, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/200105/ and http://www.berkswm.org/BWM3023.html).
