Born on July 6, 1937, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Thelma Duck LeGore.
Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a 1955 graduate of the former Eichelberger High School, Hanover. Eleanor was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Group and the former Hummelstown Woman's Club. Eleanor served her community at the Hummelstown Food Bank and the American Cancer Society. An avid Bridge player, Eleanor enjoyed playing with her friends and would serve as a substitute at the Mohler Center in Hershey. In younger years, she bowled on leagues at the former Hummelstown Community Lanes and the Palmyra Bowling Alley. Eleanor used her talent of knitting to create hats for infants at the Hershey Medical Center and sweaters for organizations to deliver to those in need locally and even as far away as Africa. Besides knitting, she also enjoyed doing counted cross stitch, reading, and playing cards.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Martin Witmer, on March 10, 2019.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel E. Witmer of Horsham, PA, and Kevin L. Witmer of Morton Grove, IL; one daughter, Colleen G. Hagenbuch wife of Mark A. of Springfield, PA; six grandchildren, Brandon Lee Witmer of Morriston, FL, Tasha Nicole Bustamente wife of Callan of Lubbock, TX, Kourtney Amber Witmer of Farnhamville, IA, and Sydney Ann Hagenbuch, Morgan Hope Hagenbuch and Keri Emma Hagenbuch all of Springfield, PA; one great granddaughter, Danielle Capri Hagenbuch of Springfield; and one sister, Jackalene Osmond wife of Paul of Garrett Park, MD.
A time to visit with Eleanor's family will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 10 to 11 AM in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with a memorial service following at 11 AM. A private inurnment will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
